Ryoga seems to have a better understanding of love than Ranma, but it is a love which is unrequited and at the same time highly idealistic ( he has been known to fantasize about situations in which he wins Akane). He also has a high sense of honor, though he is forever looking for a way to get Ranma out of the picture - he holds to the code of martial arts while at the same time still being a fairly good person. Willing to defend who he cares about, he is quick to anger against anyone who threatens the weak. Ryoga could be said to be one of the " tragic heros" of the story, always suffering, but able to keep plugging away in the midst of angst. His situation in the storyline makes him susceptible to bouts of depression and indecision on what he should do. Ryoga Hibiki is considered Ranma Saotome's first serious rival to appear in terms of martial arts skill. Ryoga's grudge with Ranma goes back to when Ranma and Ryoga attended the same Junior High ( before Ranma's curse). Every day in the cafeteria, lunch was considered a war ( it being a boys' school). Ryoga seemed to always be in reach of the very last Bread of the Day, but Ranma always just beat him out to it. After weeks of this " dishonor", Ryoga challenged Ranma to a duel in the empty lot next door to his house. Unfortunately, Ryoga had, and still has, the worst sense of direction in the world, and wandered Japan for 4 days and 3 nights looking for the appointed place. Ranma waited for 3 days, and then left with his father on a traning trip to China. When Ryoga finally arrived on the 4th day, he found that Ranma had left, inciting his anger. Cursing Ranma as a coward, Ryoga immediately followed after Ranma, but with his horrible sense of direction he couldn't catch up with him, being always one step behind. Then one day, Ryoga finally caught up to Ranma ( though he didn't know it at the time). It so happened he wandered to Jusenkyo, the Ground of Accursed Springs, where falling into any of the springs turns you into the form of the person or animal that drowned there before. As Ryoga stood on a cliff overlooking the springs, a panda almost bowled him over the edge. Ryoga leaped out of the day, only to be knocked into a spring by a certain red-haired girl. ( If you didn't guess already, it was Genma and Ranma who were responsible for cursing Ryoga) Ryoga was knocked into Heituenniichuan, the Spring of Drowned Black Piglet. Now whenever Ryoga is splashed with cold water, he turns into a little black piglet. Ryoga eventually made his way to Ranma's high school and challenged him. Though their first real fight ended in a draw ( with Akane losing her long hair to one of Ryoga's stray weapons) Ryoga continued to challenge Ranma periodically, even going so far as to challenge him to a duel in the middle of the night once. It was around this time that Ranma and Ryoga found out about each other's curses... which made Ryoga even more angry ( as he found out that Ranma was directly responsible for his curse). A lot of his anger changed, however, when he was cared for while in his cursed form by Akane, who was unaware ( and still is) that the little black pig she was taking care of was really the cursed Ryoga. Up to this time, Ryoga had thought there was absolutely no advantage to being a pig. He had gotten into various situations as a pig ( he was almost eaten once, by Genma), and hated his curse. But when Akane took him in his cursed form as a pet ( who she named " P-chan" - " P" for pig and " chan" for little/cute), Ryoga finally realized there was actually someone out there who liked his pig form. As a result, he fell in love with Akane, even though to this day, Akane still doesn't know that her new pet " P-Chan" and Ryoga are the same person. Ryoga loves her secretly, without telling her his true feelings, fearing her reaction. Thus, Ryoga either wanders in and out of the Tendo household as P-Chan, or challenges Ranma in his human form - always looking for a window of opportunity to seize to get Akane away from Ranma and over to him. It seems to be unlikely for Ryoga to win in this battle, however, because Ryoga knows in his heart that Akane actually loves Ranma, and not him. The pain is almost unbearable to him, but his hope keeps him going. Later, a girl named Akari happens to fall in love with him, and Ryoga has to decide on which one will have his heart... Opponents and Rivals: Akane, Ukyo and Kodachi Shampoo can be very sweet and also very violent at times. Probably the most physically affectionate of Ranma's multiple fiances, Shampoo has been known to attach herself onto Ranma at any given moment. Shampoo can, however be a ruthless Amazon, especially when it comes to fighting for Ranma. She has gotten into multiple fights with Ranma's other fiancees. Overall, Shampoo has the ability to be really cute and sweet and also the ability to be cold and heartless. She, like Ranma's other fiancees, is always trying to find a way to get her rivals out of the way so she can have Ranma to herself. Shampoo comes from a village of Chinese Amazons, where the women train to be vicious warriors and martial artists. Shampoo was considered to be the best of the Amazon warriors in her village. That is, until she was defeated in battle twice....by the same person. That person is Ranma Saotome. When Ranma and his father Genma Saotome were traveling through China on their way back from Jusenkyo, starved with hunger, they decided to stop in the Amazon village to eat. Unfortunately, Genma and Ranma ended up eating the feast of food that was first prize for the winner of the village's martial arts contest. Shampoo, the champion, challenged Ranma ( Who happened to be a girl at the time) to a duel. Onna-Ranma defeated Shampoo, and that proved to be a grave mistake. According to part of an Amazon law concerning battle with outsiders, if an Amazon is defeated by an outsider who is female, the Amazon must give a " Kiss of Death" and then kill her. Thus Shampoo followed Onna-Ranma and Genma all around China, trying to kill Ranma. Eventually, she caught up to Ranma in Japan - though this time, she saw the male Ranma. Believing that the Tendos were hiding Onna-Ranma, Shampoo attacked - only to be defeated again, by male Ranma this time. Expecting another " Kiss of Death", Ranma recoiled in fear from the recovering Shampoo. What he didn't expect was a very passionate kiss! Age: 16 Nationality: Chinese Eye Color: Green Hair Color: Black Curse: Changes into a white duck whenever he touches cold water, and changes back to herself when he touches warm water. Fighting Styles: Chinese Amazon Weapons: An almost never-ending arsenal of hidden weapons. Weaknesses: Myopic, and nearly blind without glasses Opponents and Rivals: Ranma Mousse seems to be a normal guy, until you factor in that he worships Shampoo. Then things get complicated. Mousse has, many times, been as devious about winning Shampoo as Shampoo is about winning Ranma. He's tried countless times to get Ranma out of the way and has failed miserably every time. He seems to have almost as much pride as Ranma, but he's made it clear that he is ready to throw all that aside for Shampoo, whom he loves with a passion. The only reason that he seems like such an idiot sometimes is because he either doesn't have his glasses on or is near Shampoo. She was employed by Principal Kuno to help deal with all the "delinquent" students at Furinkan High. When Hinako was very young, she was quite sick and was hospitalized. While there she was discovered by Happosai and learned a chi-draining technique from him (he taught her this so that she would stop the nurses from chasing him after he stole their underwear). When Hinako uses this technique she grows into an older, twenty-something woman (her proper age). But the rest of her time is spent as a young, energetic child. Her personality changes to reflect her different ages. Hinako is the homeroom and English teacher at Furinkan for the 10th grade. She also has quite a crush on Soun Tendo because he was nice to her when she was in her child form. Hinako's name translation is quite clever. "Hina" means "young bird" and "ko" is a common feminine name ending. Ninomiya is broken down into "two princesses" which is obviously about her adult and child forms.       Happosai Happosai Names: Happosai, Ojiji(Old fart, crazy old fart, dirty old man, perverted old man, old gizzard) and Happy Name Meaning: Happosai means 8 treasures together. Age: Estimated to be 400 yrs old Nationality: Japanese Hair Color: Grey and White Love Interest: All beautiful women Occupation: Thief of women's undergarments and martial arts master ( teacher) Hobbies: Chasing pretty women and stealing lingerie. Fighting Styles: Easily distracted by pretty women and lingerie. Weaknesses:  Women and and their private parts The legendary perverted master of Soun Tendo and Genma Saotome has returned to ruin their lives. After drinking too much one day, Genma and Soun were able to tie him up in a basket and seal him away in a cave. For many years Happosai stayed locked away until the seal was broken and he escaped. His first targets were Soun and Genma, after making their lives a living hell, Ranma decided to intervene and quickly found he was no match for Happosai. Happosai loves to steal women's undergarments. He has a large collection of bras and panties that he carries around in a large sack. He can often be found groping women and making a nuisance of himself. In fact, if he doesn't touch a woman regularly, he becomes sick and weak. Happosai was also responsible for the naming of Pantyhose and teaching Hinako Ninomiya her metabolism altering techniques.
